PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/SYMPOSIUM TEAM – Are very busy setting the Educational path for our Chapter over the next few months.  They held their first education session: “Labor Law Updates”, in June at the offices of Morrison Foerster. The early morning breakfast session was presented by Dean Silverberg, a partner at Epstein Becker P.C., and our resident Labor Law Update expert! Many thanks for his time and true devotion to the topic and practice.  Mr. Silverberg provided an update on required sexual harassment training, employee handbook updates and special issues under the FMLA and New York State Paid Family Leave Law. This much anticipated education session was very well attended.

We developed and held Fall Monthly Education sessions in September and October, which included Active Shooter on September 24, a Strategic Mindset Webinar (Part 1) on September 25 and Strategic Mindset Webinar (Part 2) on October 3. In addition, the Team held an additional educational session in November, entitled, “Developing A Strong Personal Brand and Thought Leadership Profile.”  The session was presented by Stephanie Marrone at The Kimberly Hotel’s Empire Steakhouse, our BP sponsor for the event. Stephanie discussed the use of social media tools to help build your own personal brand, and how to implement and use these skills and tools with your firm’s attorneys as well. Stefanie also discussed major areas of personal branding, reputation management, personal executive presence, content management, and thought leadership. Participants gathered new information on how to leverage their personal and professional strengths, build a strong thought leadership profile (even if you are not a writer), and effectively leverage social media channels as well as podcasts and videos to enhance their career and firm. Members who missed this session had another opportunity to learn from Ms. Marrone on January 22nd at her LinkedIn Masterclass session. Be sure to check the events calendar at www.alaync.org regularly for our not-to-be-missed educational sessions!

At our 20/20 Vision Symposium, Opening Keynote speaker, Joshua Evans presented a thought-provoking session on how to create engaged teams and impassioned individuals. Employment Law Firm Partner Dean Silverberg, Esq. returned as the Closing Keynote speaker and shared with us the labor law updates. In addition to a full day of learning, we added networking and fun in between sessions. The “BP Passport to Prizes Game” brought together our Members and Business Partners throughout the day like never before! There was a total of 21 Member winners presented during the cocktail reception for the Passport Game. Prizes received included gift cards, Apple AirPods, an Apple watch, PowerBeats (wireless headphones) and many other items, all donated by our very generous Business Partners.

The lunch hour offered time to relax, unwind and laugh a bit while watching our Members team up with our Business Partners in a live game of Family Feud. See more Symposium photos here!

We are happy to report that over 206 Chapter members, Business Partners and other ALA Chapter member guests registered for our Symposium event. Here’s looking at 20/20 with a new vision. We hope you enjoyed the educational sessions and were equipped with the latest skills and ideas to take you through the new year ahead.
